Product description Designed by Tech 21—the company which brought you SansAmp—the VT Bass 1969 is an amplifier head intended for use with electric basses. Providing 345W into 4-Ohm cabinets, this amplifier offers a solid-state solution for chasing tube-based, Ampeg-style tone. The preamp of this unit is based on SansAmp technology, specifically the SansAmp Character-Series VT Bass DI series, giving you a continuously-variable Character control, which allows you to approximate the tones of popular amplifiers, with a strong focus on the Ampeg tonal profile.Controls include a Gain switch to suit active and passive basses alike, a Drive control is provided for gain, a Character knob for cycling through various tones, and a 3-knob active EQ section. This is a two-channel amplifier, so two sets of the aforementioned controls are provided, allowing you to achieve one specific tone—say Flip-Top funk—in one channel, and a rocky snarl in the other. You can flip between the two channels with an on-board button, or the included footswitch. You can also use this footswitch to mute your output, and to simultaneously engage both channels. Various connection points are provided, including SpeakON and 1/4" jacks for cabinets, a buffered tuner output, and an XLR DI output to feed the PA, mixing board, recording interface, and more. A 10 dB pad and ground-lift switch help tailor the DI output to specific scenarios. You’ll also note the preamp and power-amp jacks, which double as an effects loop. A rackmount kit is included, should you want to rack your amp. - Channel Selection
- This amplifier provides two channels with identical controls. However, these channels-and their parameters-are independent, so you can set the character and drive completely different and switch between sections of material, either by pressing the channel-selector switch, or with the included footswitch.
- Drive, Character, Bass, Mid, and Treble Controls
- Drive adjusts the overall amount of gain and overdrive, similar to driving the output of a tube amplifier. Character, on the other hand, cycles through tonal profiles, specifically of Ampeg-style amplifiers, giving you different models at the rotation of a knob. Character influences the attack, drive, and frequency response of the overall sound. Bass, Mid, and, Treble are active tone controls that cut or boost ±12 dB from unity gain. Bass is tuned to 125 Hz, Mid is tuned to 500 Hz, and Treble frequency is 3.2 kHz. There are separate sets of controls per channel
- Gain Boost
- A 10 dB gain boost switch is provided to set up the pre-amp for different pickups. For example, with lower output passive pickups, you can have punchier sounds with Gain engaged. Conversely, with higher output active pickups, you can have a cleaner sound with Gain disengaged. Of course, you can also obtain over-the-top distortion by using high output pickups with Gain engaged.
- SpeakON and 1/4" Connections
- Two sets of out outputs—one SpeakON, the other 1/4"—are wired in parallel, and allow you to drive cabinets at 4 Ohms, be they speakON-compatible or 1/4" in termination.
- SansAmp XLR DI Output
- For recording, the SansAmp XLR output is like having a DI box built into the amp. You can go direct to the board and get the same sound you hear coming out of the speakers into your recording medium. The SansAmp circuitry not only recreates the warm natural harmonics and overdrive characteristics inherent to tube amplifiers, its speaker emulation emulates a miked cabinet. For live gigs, you can use this output direct into the PA system, and you won't need to place a microphone in front of the amp. Also, you won't have to subject the audience to a sterile DI sound. A level selector switch on the DI circuit brings the overall volume down by -10 dB to accommodate a wide range of gear.
- Preamp Output and Power Amp Input
- In addition to the standard functions of such connections, these 1/4" jacks can also be used as an effects loop.
- Tuner Output
- As long as the unit is plugged in, the tuner output provides a constant, unaffected signal at all times, regardless of the position of the Level controls or the status of the Mute button on the Footswitch. This output can also be used as a buffered output to send a transparent signal to other outboard gear.
