Product description The 4 x 5.65" Graduated Coral 1/2 Filter from Tiffen is part of their award-winning series of Color Graduated filters and one of the most widely used. It enhances reality, adding a touch of subtlety or drama to the image. This filter gives you the ability to add more "punch" to an otherwise ordinary scene.Tiffen Graduated filters give you the control you need to create a scene as opposed to just shooting a scene. Coral filters are general purpose warming filters that come in increasing amounts of color temperature correction as the number in the series increases. They are commonly used to produce slightly "orangey" skies. This filter has its value when you want to change a washed out sunrise or sunset into something special. The level of "punch" that is added by a coral filter can turn a run-of-the-mill landscape shot into a memorable moment. As opposed to traditional warming filters, corals are mood enhancers. Coral filters come in grades with the higher numbers having a stronger effect. With graduated filters, often it is necessary or desirable to balance the light intensity in one part of a scene with another. This is especially true in situations where you don't have total light control, as in bright contrasty landscapes. Sometimes it is also desirable to add color to part of the photograph. For example, to add orange to only the sky. Tiffen Color Graduated filters are half-color, half-clear, with a graduated transition for blending into the scene. They are available in an array of colors. The Soft or Hard label indicates the degree of color graduation. Horizontal/Vertical indicates the direction of the graduation.Tiffen's ColorCore glass is produced through a process that entails permanently laminating the filter material in between two pieces of optical glass that are ground flat to tolerances of a ten-thousandth of an inch, then mounting them in precision aluminum rings. - Adding warmth to a drab sky, sunrise or sunset - depending on the grade chosen, you can vary the intensity of the effect. For example, a 1/8 graduated coral will have a very "gentle" effect on the color while a grade 5 will have a profound effect
- Enhance the existing color of a scene or create a more subtle or intense drama
- Since the filter is graduated (half color, half clear), it can be used to create a more balanced exposure in uneven lighting conditions
- Coral filters differ from yellow or traditional warming filters in that they are specifically targeted towards mood rather than a direct color change. Corals are extremely popular with cinematographers who need to enhance the mood of a director's vision of a specific shot
ColorCore Technology - Tiffen's ColorCore glass is sealed between two optical glass sheets. In this way, Tiffen can better control the various densities of their filters and thereby create more exact degrees of filtration. This process makes for greater accuracy of color as opposed to glass that is simply dyed and become subject to deviation during the dye process
