Product description Designed for electric guitarists who want to vitalize their amplified setup (or eschew their amps altogether), the Two Notes Le Clean is a two-channel preamp in a pedal form factor. Part of the Le Preamp series, this pedal features a Ruby 12AX7AC5 HG tube at its heart, giving you an analog, tube-driven sound inspired by a brand whose name, though only coyly alluded to, has been known to boogie across more than a few players.Routing possibilities of all kinds were considered in the construction of this pedal. An unbalanced input and output have been designed for guitar signals, while an XLR DI output gives you a balanced run to PA systems, mixers, and recording interfaces. You’ll also note the thru-put for passing unprocessed signal straight to an amplifier, as well as a headphone output and 5-pin DIN MIDI jacks.MIDI I/O allows you to send and receive MIDI PCs, so you can control third-party effects units straight from the pedal, or use your MIDI foot controller to select among channel configurations on the Le Clean. Rounding out the connections is a built-in, post-EQ effects loop for integrating other effects pedals. With all these possibilities, you can drive your amplifier into high-gain territories, or ditch the amp altogether, plugging straight from the pedal into the house. The Le Clean offers two channels—one with lower gain and a pre-distortion EQ, and another with a post-distortion EQ operating at higher gains. The second channel also gives you a midrange knob with a selectable center frequency for further tone sculpting. You can use these channels independently, or blend them together in one of two fusion modes. With this pedal, you’ll be able to achieve tones appropriate for rock-reggae, funky chicken-picking, twangy country leads, and anything else you’d expect from a gritty, American-style amplifier. Other features worth mentioning are its hardwire bypass, its ground/lift switch for the DI output, and a selectable speaker simulation taken right from Two Note’s Torpedo C.A.B.; this emulation processes the sound of your DI and headphone output through a cabinet model specifically tuned to complement the Le Clean preamp. The emulation is switchable via a button on the side of the pedal next to the headphones jack. Power is supplied via the included adapter. A 16-cabinet license for Wall of Sound III is included with the pedal. - Two Channel or Fusion Operation
- Le Clean’s A and B channels can operate independently, with each channel providing its own voicing and EQ section. Channel A gives you passive bass and treble controls, while channel B adds to the mix a midrange knob with a sweepable center-frequency. On Channel A, you’ll notice a lower gain tube stage with pre-gain EQ Emphasizing a more vintage design and sound. Channel B, on the other hand, offers higher gains and a post-distortion EQ.Then you have your fusion modes. Cold Fusion is not the hypothetical room-temperature nuclear reaction depicted in so many works of science fiction, but rather a placement of channels A and B in parallel. In Cold Fusion, you can blend the cleaner sound from A with the more distorted sound of B to achieve both crunch and articulation. In Hot Fusion, A feeds B. So, channel A can be used as a boost for channel B, with both A and B EQ’s on hand to shape the result.
- Switching, MIDI, and Multi-Channel Mode
- Each channel gets its own footswitch, but simultaneously pressing A and B will activate Fusion mode. When routed into a MIDI setup, pressing A then B, or A and B together will also send a specific MIDI Program Change command. Five basic functions can be accessed through MIDI Program Changes (PC) sent by an external MIDI device: Channel A, Channel B, Cold Fusion, Hot Fusion, and Bypass. In other words, the pedal can receive a MIDI PC asking for bypass or channel switch, and any MIDI message received will be transmitted to the MIDI output (MIDI Thru function). When using the pedal as a MIDI controller, you can send a MIDI PC to trigger the preset-changes on another MIDI device, such as a Torpedo C.A.B. or a third-party effects unit. All of this allows for seamless integration into MIDI pedalboard switching systems.Connected via MIDI, two or more Two Notes units can be configured in multi-channel mode: Pressing A on a Le Clean will bypass your Le Lead, turning all your Le Preamp series pedals into, effectively, different channels of an amplifier.
- Connection Routing Possibilities
- As a traditional preamplifier, the Le Clean can be connected to a power amplifier and a cabinet, or into the return or power-amp input of a guitar amplifier. Placed before an amp, it can act as a boost, overdrive, or distortion pedal. Used alone, or with the Torpedo C.A.B., the pedal can act as an autonomous system, enabling you to connect directly to the house's PA, a mixing board, or a recording interface. By simply plugging your headphones, you can play silently.
- Integrated Speaker Simulation
- Should you use the DI output or the headphones output, your tone will be processed through an analog speaker simulation tuned to work specifically with the Le Clean preamp pedal. This simulation is based on sounds created with Two Notes' Torpedo simulator.
- Included 16-Cabinet License for Wall of Sound III
- Included with the pedal is a license for 16 virtual cabinets for use with Wall of Sound III, a speaker and microphone-placement emulation plugin. This plugin works in DAWs such as Cubase, Logic Pro X, Pro Tools, and more. Using this software, you can recreate the full complement of a guitar sound, from the preamp of the pedal to the 16 cabinet responses usable in Wall of Sound III.
