Performed by 4 soloists with many years of international concert work, the library provides instruments that are sensitive and clear, exact and homogeneous, technically perfect and utterly convincing in their musicality. Apart from the entire sample library of the Horizon Series' Solo Strings Edition, this instrument contains many additional articulations. "Zigane," the leisurely "smeared" portamentos, are particularly impressive as Interval Performances using the enhanced audio engine's algorithms. Other articulations are the fast Interval Performances using legato, marcato and spiccato techniques. "Harsh" articulations are played with an especially raw, almost brutal attack and are available as superbly effective Interval and Repetition Performances. • Dimension Strings I Standard Edition - Vienna Instruments (Download) The Vienna Dimension Strings I Standard Edition from Vienna Symphonic Library is a sample-based virtual instrument that pushes the envelope when it comes to sampling technology. The recordings in Vienna's famed Silent Stage started as early as the fall of 2008. With over 230,000 samples in the Standard Edition and over 700,00 for the full library, it is by far the most ambitious and intensive production in the history of the Vienna Symphonic Library.
  
  The twenty-four string players of this library were recorded in homogenous groups (eight violins, six violas, six cellos and four double basses) to capture the slight imperfections of human playing. However, individual microphones were also used for each player, allowing access to each individual voice, with each string of each instrument recorded in its full range.
  
  With the included presets one can decide whether to have the musicians play on all strings (with a change to the next string in fifth intervals), or forced playing on a certain string. Playing with no open strings is also an option. The technique of using individual microphones is well suited for divisi writing. For the violins, preset setups for two groups of four players and four desks of two players are provided.
  
  As with all the company's libraries, the emphasis is on making the instruments sound as if they are being played by real players, not a quantified and sterile collection of sounds. Even the best musicians never play in perfect unison. To that end, individual changes in dynamic levels of the players within a group can be achieved easily with velocity crossfades. It is also possible to designate one or two "weak" musicians to play sloppy notes, with hesitant or delayed starts, for instance.

• Dimension Strings II Standard Library - Vienna Instruments (Download) Vienna Dimension Strings II Standard Library from Vienna Symphonic Library is the sequel to Vienna Dimension Strings I, containing nearly all the same playing techniques, but with the string instruments exclusively recorded "con sordino" (with mutes). Playing with mutes dampens the transmission of energy from the strings to the body of the instrument and softens or darkens the sound. The effect perfectly suits intimate arrangements and emotional ballads, and when added to normal string sound, provides a broad, soft, and warm string environment.
  
  The players were recorded in four homogeneous groups (eight violins, six violas, six cellos and four double basses), but with dedicated microphones for each player. Each string of each instrument was recorded in its full range (approximately one octave plus a fifth), and with the included presets it is easy to decide whether to have the musicians play on all strings (with a change to the next string in fifth intervals), or forced playing on a certain string. Or choose to play with no open strings.
  
  When playing as a group, musicians continually adapt, matching timbre, intensity, vibrato, intonation, bow speed, and more. All these interactions happen automatically in a good ensemble, led by a good conductor, and reveal the "magic" of a live performance. • Harps - Vienna Instruments Harps from Vienna Symphonic is a sample-based virtual instrument, featuring two harps. The collection provides the ability to write orchestral music from the mid-19th century that requires two harps. Harp 1, played by Ruth Rojahn, includes normal, muted, harmonics and bisbigliando single notes and medium speed major, diminished, pentatonic and whole tone glissandi. The controller structure of the library provides extremely flexible and quick access to various controls, allowing the user to switch between ranges, different tempos, up and down movements and different scales in real-time while playing. The second harp, played by Julia Reth, contains an even larger number of single notes, also offering playing styles like damped, fingernail playing and pedal glissandos. A lovely ethereal effect is created by the bisbigliando variations, the whispering of tender tremolos on two strings playing the same note. • Woodwinds I - Vienna Instruments Vienna Instruments - Woodwinds I from Vienna Symphonic is a sample-based virtual instrument, featuring the four main wind instruments of the orchestra, namely the flute, oboe, clarinet and bassoon, as well as their corresponding ensemble formations, with three players per ensemble. All the original players are top flight professionals and include Gisela Mashayekhi-Beer who was the solo flutist of the Zurich Opera orchestra and taught at the Bruckner University, Linz and at the Vienna Music University. Markus Deuter is the first oboist of numerous German orchestras and the clarinetist Daniel Hörth looks back on an international concert career with the Vienna Philharmonic, the Vienna Symphonic Orchestra and others.   Compared with its close relative the flute (flauto traverso), the instrument range of the wooden recorder (flauto dolce) is more limited in terms of pitch and dynamics. This is one of the reasons why the recorder was replaced by the (traverse) flute in orchestras around the 18th century. However, recorders were very popular during medieval times and into the renaissance, and even in the baroque era famous composers such as Telemann, Bach, Handel and Vivaldi wrote pieces for these instruments.
  
  Due to the absence of upper harmonics and a predominance of odd harmonics, the sound of recorders is soft and mellow.
