Product description Designed for electric guitar players, the Walrus Audio ARP-87 is a delay pedal offering four delay types that, among them, cover almost all the conventional delays you could hope to summon, and then some. Its Program knob allows you to choose algorithms for Digital, Analog, Lo-Fi, and Slap echoes. Digital will provide clear, exact repeats. Analog can add resonance and girth to chords without getting in the way of your original riffs. Lo-Fi sports an adjustable frequency range via the X knob; you can, for instance, affect tones reminiscent of an AM radio with delay. If country or rockabilly are your thing, look no farther than the Slap algorithm for tight, short echoes.Level and Repeat controls let you determine the strength of the delay in your tone and the number of repeats respectively. With its tap-tempo footswitch, you can dictate the time between echoes, and further tailor the subdivision of the echo with the ratio knob; quarter-note, eighth-note, dotted-eight, and triplet values are supplied. Furthermore, pressing and holding the tap switch will ramp the repeats up, giving you a crescendo of sound that can be applied to numerous creative scenarios.A bypass footswitch triples the functionality, providing you two different momentary functions elucidated below in the features section. It can also be used to toggle Trails mode on and off. - Controls at a Glance
- Level knob: This adjusts the level of the repeats. Turned clockwise, your echoes will be quite loud indeed.Dampen knob: This controls the overall tone of the repeats, acting as a low-pass filter.Repeats knob: This adjusts the number of repeats from one to near-infinity.Ratio knob: Divided into quarter, eighth, dotted-eighth, and triplet values, this knob sets the tempo subdivision for tap-temp algorithms (Digital, Analog, and Lo-Fi). It also adjusts the delay time for the Slap algorithm.X knob: This knob serves different functions depending on the algorithm selected. In Digital, Analog, and Slap, it adjusts modulation depth. For Lo-Fi, it adjusts filter width.Program knob: This selects the delay algorithm. Your choices are D (Digital), A (Analog), L (Lo-Fi), and S (Slap).Tap footswitch: This can set the time of the delay. Tap twice at the desired speed to set the delay’s tempo.Bypass switch: This turns the effect on or off.Tap input jack: Use this jack to plug-in an external tap switch or a master clock. Only open, non-latching footswitches should be used in conjunction with this jack.
- Momentary Functions
- Bypass switch: When the switch is off, you can press and hold it to activate the effect temporarily, adding a moment of delay texture. Release the switch again, and the effect will turn off. Likewise, when the switch is on, if you press down on the bypass switch, the X parameter will momentarily ramp up to its maximum value. Releasing the switch sets this parameter back to its original, set position.Tap switch: Pressing and holding the tap switch will temporarily ramp the number of repeats to its maximum value. Releasing the tap switch will bring the repeats back down to the knob location.Trails mode: The ARP-87 can run in Trails mode, which means that when you turn the pedal off, the delays trail off naturally. When Trails mode is off, pressing bypass kills the delay instantaneously. Toggle between the modes by holding down the bypass for one second while the pedal is powered up. Unplug power and repeat the process to toggle back to the other mode.
